Do you find it impossible to get (or stay) motivated to lose weight?

MOTIVATION noun

  1. 1a :  the act or process of motivating b :  the condition of being motivated
  2. 2:  a motivating force, stimulus, or influence :  incentive, drive

Notice that motivation is simply a reason for doing something.

#TRUTHBOMB if you have a strong “why” for losing weight, you don’t need motivation, you need to take action.

I’m guessing you probably have LOTS of motivation (reasons) to lose weight. You want to feel better, look better, be healthier, have more energy, play with your kids, do certain activities, run a 5k, the list goes on.

But for whatever reason, you aren’t taking action…you aren’t doing the work.

Instead of trying to figure out how to make the work happen, we tell ourselves, “I just can’t find my motivation.” Then we roll over and feel sorry for ourselves, believing we don’t have the willpower to succeed.

Before I go any further, I need you to know that it’s okay for you to be right where you are, right now. So stop beating yourself up. Guilt, remorse, regret, and shame are not good motivators.

Read that again!

Guilt, remorse, regret, and shame are not good motivators.

So how do we fix this?

Do these four things to get motivated for good so you can lose weight and live your ideal happy, healthy lifestyle…

1) You must believe that change is possible.

No matter how many times you feel like you’ve failed in the past, CHANGE IS POSSIBLE!

We cannot approach change hoping to succeed if we already feel defeated and deflated. So let go of the past, without it, you wouldn’t be where you are today, and today that person (you) is ready for change.

2) You must be excited about your goal…and the process.

Excitement about your goal will get you started, but you’ll need to get excited about the process in order to keep doing the work.

Get excited about the salad. Get excited about your ab workout. Get excited about drinking your water. It’s all good stuff!

The truth is that true change takes time and patience. There will be many ups and downs, ebbs and flows, struggles and victories– but they are ALL part of establishing lifelong success.

You aren’t going to have amazing wins (or losses) on the scale, every day or every week. But when you learn to enjoy the process and get excited about what’s happening from the inside-out, motivation happens (almost) every day.

3) You must be willing to make simple/doable sacrifices and change priorities.

You know the old saying, “we can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results!” And it’s SO true.

But don’t overthink it. Keep these changes and sacrifices simple and doable. If you try to change everything at one time, you’re very likely going to find yourself “unmotivated” again. Instead, create the path of least resistance.

Making sacrifices doesn’t mean deprivation. It means making changes that are a reflection of your change in priorities because you are creating change in your life.

4) You must be go deep.

In order to lose weight, and keep it off, you must be willing to dive into YOU.

You need to be able to identify WHY you overeat, WHY you don’t exercise, WHY you struggle with establishing habits that support your ideal happy, healthy lifestyle. And then find solutions that WORK for YOU!
