I’m happy to report that not only did I survive eating a 10-months-past-its-due-date cheese stick yesterday, but I’m also down four pounds since returning from my 10 day trip to West Virginia! (The two are unrelated.) I also had a really crappy workout today which stinks, but it was better than nothing and I’m SUPER excited about some projects I’m working on that I think you’re going to LOVE!
Let’s start with the cheese…
I sat down at my desk yesterday the other day with a bowl of baby peppers and guacamole with 2 cheese sticks; a standard afternoon snack for me, because YUM! I took a big bite of the first cheese stick, basically half of it in one mouthful, and as I was chewing I thought to myself, “this tastes a little weird.”
After swallowing it, of course, I decided to take a look at the wrapper– turns out it expired in October. Fortunately I lived to tell the story but I have to admit, i wasn’t one of my proudest moments. That’ll teach me to reach for things at the back of the deli drawer in my fridge! Or, you know, clean out my fridge…soon…ish. Honestly, it’s hard to believe that with my love for cheese that ANY cheese managed to hang around this long without being consumed. #imperfectlife
I’ve lost 4lbs since returning from West Virginia which is good but also expected. I always gain no less than 6lbs when I go on vacation, mostly water weight, so to lose 4lbs in six days is really nothing to write home about…or even a blog post– but I’m doing it anyway.
Like I said in my last post, this is the first time in 2 years that I am actively working to lose weight— 20lbs to be exact, since my comfy weight is around 169lbs. Like I did in the early days, I will keep you posted on my progress with scale pictures and updates. Remember those from back when I was working to lose those 164lbs I lost a couple of years ago?
Weight loss can be a really frustrating process, full of highs and lows and lots of plateaus, I plan to leave none of the details out. For now I’m not tracking calories, just practicing intuitive eating– eating when I’m hungry, stopping when I’m full. The difference between what I’ve been doing for the last several months (eating intuitively without any restrictions) and what I’ll be doing during weight-loss mode is that I will be more selective about the foods I eat. In other words, I’ll be limiting the extra, non-nutrient-dense-foods like starches and other simple sugars, and keeping indulgences to a minimum. Basically, I’ll be more diligent about consistently sticking to my favorite low carb, whole foods. Consistency is key when it comes to weight loss!
Speaking of whole foods…would you be interested in attending a free webinar about what an I’mperfect Life low carb, whole foods diet looks like? I’m planning to schedule one in the next couple of weeks and I’d LOVE it if you could join! If you aren’t already subscribed to my mailing list make sure you do it HERE. That way you’ll be notified of the details since you can’t count on Facebook to share them!
Facebook. Grrr! Did you know that I’mperfect Life has almost 13,000 fans? Pretty cool, eh? Wanna hear something infuriating? When I share a post on Facebook, I get notified of how many people actually see my posts and half the time my “reach” as they call it, is less that 1,000 people, often times it’s a mere 200-300! So, if you’ve been counting on Facebook to keep you up to speed on what’s going on over here, don’t! You’re likely missing lots of great recipes, fitness tips, inspiration and more! That’s why it’s important to sign up for my mailing list, AND add my email to your safe-sender list, unless you regularly check your SPAM or Promotions Folder. But who does that?! Not me!
Oh! Let me tell you about my workout today. So first, you know about my blister from Monday right? That whole workout really kicked my butt! It didn’t help that I had already worked out with my personal training clients earlier during the day. It was a good old two-a-day! By yesterday I could barely walk down the stairs. I worked out anyway with some jogging, kettle bell swings, push ups, ab rockers and slam balls, because doing cardio and drinking water are the best ways to get rid of soreness by flushing the toxins– remnants of the metabolic process from working out. I also took some magnesium before going to bed, which REALLY helps me sleep, especially when I’m sore. I woke up this morning feeling pretty darned good and was anxious to get in a good, solid workout.
I got to the gym (CrossFit Box) feeling great. The warm-up went fine and the accessory work felt okay but when it came time for the WOD my body was like, “eff you!” 10 burpees, 5 man makers and a six hundred meter run x 3. I was okay until I got to the run and then my legs, hips, arms and shoulder started to feel like jello. I ended up walking most of the run and by the time I got back to the burpees for round 2 I felt like I was moving through mud. We were supposed to get in 3 rounds in 18 minutes, I managed to get 2. Some days are just like that. It feels frustrating and discouraging but our bodies are pretty smart and know when they need rest. My body let me know loud and clear that it was NOT happy with me and that I need to rest a little longer.
This is very inconvenient since I’m supposed to be training for the Garage Games Master’s CrossFit Competition, but I do feel confident that if I take care of my body it will take care of me. Hopefully by Saturday I’ll be in a better position to go harder and faster. Tonight will be an Epsom salt bath and tomorrow…I don’t know yet.
In the meantime, I’m eating well– mostly plants, some protein, a little fat, and a bit of starch. And eating well is the most important part!
AND…
I’ve been working on a real food, real fitness, real life journal that I can’t wait to share with you! It’s based on the program I use with my one-on-one coaching clients that I’ve turned into a 30 Day tracking tool to help users eat better, move better and FEEL better! Here’s a sneak peak!
I’m SUPER excited about this and believe it’s going to change the way you think about food, fitness, life and success.
Stay tuned! It’s COMING SOON!

Euw at the cheesestick! Makes you wonder just how much preservative they put in those things for it to still be okay after such a long time! And well down on the 4lbs 🙂
Thanks! Cheese is naturally preserved and it was in a tight wrapper so mold wouldn’t have the option to grow. But it was definitely past it’s prime, a little OVER cheesed! 🙂
