Being a Foster Parent…
It's been a little over a week now since the two little boys came to stay with us and almost a week since their sister came too. Over these past several days a lot of changes have taken place. Changes in the kids, Brett, our home and ME.
The kids have certainly come out of their shells, so there's that. :-D
All three are incredibly smart and it's so rewarding to see how much they've learned…
First night as Foster Parents
We finished our paperwork with our foster care agency around the first of December, knowing that the state would have 50 days to return our license. Since we were out of town for the holidays, we assumed other people would be too. This led us to believe that we could expect our license around the end of January.
We returned home on Saturday, Jan 8th. Exhausted from the previous three and a…
A Letter to A Prospective Foster Parent…
This is an email that I sent to someone asking me about fostering. She and her husband are considering becoming foster parents. I thought I'd share it with you.
Since we live in NC, I'm can only tell you about the process we went through here. However, I do have some friends who have gone through the process in AZ and have both adopted a few children over the years. I can hook you up with them…
Could we be BFFs?
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY CRAZY LIFE... Can you relate?
I’ve moved 19 times in my adult life between four different states and I’m itching to move again.
I’ve been married and divorced …and married again. I have been a foster mom and am now a mom-mom, to two beautiful boys.
I've been a professional photographer, actress, administrative assistant, an ad executive, a preschool teacher, a private…
About Andrea
Meet Andrea In 2011 I was at war with myself and my body, feeling like a failure at 328lbs-- wishing and hoping things could be different, watching the life I wanted to live pass me by.
I was too large to fit in roller coasters.
I was too heavy to meet the weight limits for things like zip lines and ropes courses.
I was too out of shape to keep up with my friends.
I was too…
The Struggle is Real!
I'm happy to report that as of my last OB visit I had only gained ONE pound in 3 weeks. That is a first for me throughout this pregnancy as I have averaged at least a pound per week up until this point. Oy!
As of today I am at 27 weeks and 1 day, right at the cusp of the 3rd trimester...you know, when the majority of the weight gain is SUPPOSED to start. (oh please, oh please, oh please, let…
The Drama Club Movie Experience, Part One
Feeding 23+ people 3 square meals a day ain't no joke, yo!
Seriously, that was quite possibly the second most challenging job of my life-- the first being a foster parent to 3 kids for 6 months! But just as being a foster parent was incredibly rewarding, so was being the on-set cook for the film The Drama Club and it was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything!
If you read my previous…
Almost 40 Means I’m Only 38
Yesterday was my birthday. I turned 38. This means I'm very, VERY close to 40. At first that sounds like a big grown-up number to me, but when I really stop and think about it, being almost 40 really doesn't mean much at all.
Being almost any age means you really only have the number of years you actually are, behind you. And you'll never know what's in store for those future numbers until you…
Limbo Schmimbo
Okay, so I know it's only been a week since I wrote this big long post about how I was okay with living in limbo. I know that I told you all about how I was working on focusing on things that didn't involve making progress in the box (CrossFit gym) while Brett and I are "trying to not try" to get pregnant. And I know that I told you that I'm just focusing on taking care of myself in other ways…
Who ARE these kids?! …And Where Do We Go From Here?
Brett and I got to spend an entire day with our former foster kids on Sunday and let me tell you we were astonished!
It had been over a year since we last saw the kids who came to us in January of 2011 and stayed in our home for six months. If you're new to my blog you must read some of what I wrote back when they were with us to truly understand what I'm about to tell you. I'll…
